TO STRETCH OR NOT TO STRETCH

Many of my Sciatic pain patients ask me if they should stretch their hamstring with sciatica because it feels tight.

Of course it makes sense.  Your leg feels tight so you should stretch it.  Right?

Actually the short answer is NO! But Why?

Unfortunately this often makes matters worse.  The tightness in your leg may feel like a tight hamstring but it's actually just tension or tightness on the Sciatic nerve that's inflamed.

And….Stretching it will actually make it worse!

The key is to figure out WHY and WHERE that tension is occurring. Discover the ROOT cause!

The answer in the majority cases is in the low back.

Here is a basic exercise we give a lot of our patients if they are dealing with sciatic nerve pain and tension.

But there is a caveat.  There are many structures that can cause tension on the sciatic nerve and many different approaches. Once you know where the problem is it's just a matter of developing a plan of attack!

That is where we come in.  We have been successfully treating sciatic nerve pain for over 20 years.   If you need help we are here!
